Comparing Spirits Glasses for Highlighting Tequila Aromas

Glassware & Tequila Aromas (using Siempre reposado, NOM 1414):

*NOTE: I think the results may differ from tequila to tequila (& spirit to spirit) because Siempre reposado, which has a lovely aroma, is a bit light (to me) in terms of its aromas.

-The 2 top scores go to the Luigi Bormioli Vinoteque Snifter glass (designed for cognac, brandy, grappa) & the Riedel tequila flute. Both really directed the aromas upward the most fully.

-The Riedel flute also accented the aromas of Mezcal Burrito Fiestero Artesanal Joven better than a traditionally shaped Glassique Cadeau mezcal glass.

-In the middle is the Glassique Cadeau tequila copita, which did a good job but also seemed to vary depending on the angle.

-The lowest scores went to, in order from second-to-last to the last, the Glencairn glass & the Stölzle Lausitz whisky nosing glass (both designed primarily for whiskeys). I think the shape of the latter, which is a bit “sharp” versus more gently rounded, obscured some of the aromas’ flow up to the top of the glass. In contrast, the Luigi Bormioli snifter had a more gently rounded bowl.

You don’t need to mortgage your house to get good glassware. Case in point: these Better Homes & Gardens drinks glasses, purchased for home (tequila) cocktails, were under $9 pre-tax for a set of 4 glasses.
