REVIEW – Mijenta Reposado Tequila

NOM 1499 – Beautiful packaging and a plus that the brand is environmentally & socially conscious. In addition to all of this, the reposado is delicious. Though experimental rather than strictly “traditional” in its aging process & the influence from the barrel and cask aging is clear, this reposado is definitively a tequila and not a whiskey. On the nose is cooked sweet agave and cinnamon, some citrus fruitiness & floral notes (though it’s much less overtly floral than the blanco), caramel, vanilla, honey, & hints of chocolate with a peppery kick on the back-end. There are also hints of brûléed banana. The influence of the oak and acacia is evident. On the palate, the sweet cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, honey, & pepper are most prominent. The mouthfeel is buttery and there is decent, though not long-lasting, viscosity.

-Tasted using a Riedel tequila flute glass
