I bought this blanco & reposado tequila on a whim because they were both on sale in my area for, pre-tax, $25 & $28 respectively & I was curious about the French Oak wine cask aging of both.
I knew going in that they had mixed reviews, but the price point, reviews by some folks whose assessments I respect (if not always agree with), & my own research into them led me to pull the trigger.
I’ve done two initial tastings using Riedel tequila flute glasses – the first were neck pours & the second round of tastings were done after allowing them to open up in the glass for 20-30 minutes.
BLUF (bottom line up front) – I’m not sure exactly what I think of either the blanco or the reposado. I do know I don’t really like the aroma profiles of either, but particularly the blanco, because they strike me as having too much of an artificial quality. For example, the vanilla of the blanco is far too strong (though the flavor profile on the palate isn’t as vanilla forward).
The flavor profiles are better than their aroma profiles, particularly those of the blanco, which is a bit reminiscent of a (dialed down) Casamigos blanco.
I’ll need to revisit them before writing a tasting notes review.
As of now, if looking for a good “budget” sipper, I’d opt for Olmeca Altos plata (blanco) or reposado because of that brand’s much more typical & traditional flavor profiles.
Full tasting reviews of Tequila Mi Campo blanco & reposado coming soon after follow-up tastings so I can be as fair as possible. It’s important for me to do a wide-ranging & diverse set of tastings of spirits so that I can form as educated an opinion as possible as to my flavor profile preferences, as I discussed HERE.
