Doing Multiple Tastings Before Forming Final Tasting Notes & Reviews

After a good conversation with other tequila enthusiasts whose opinions I respect, I’ll probably give La Gritona reposado another shot sometime in the future.  It is this type of spirits community interactions that are so valuable, mutual sharing & discussion, not the elitist snobbery & rudeness we all see too much & too frequently.

Due to radical variations between different batches (which I do think is a negative), I’ll wait for at least a few to six months to try & get a different batch.  Because of the current underwhelming experience with this batch, I’ll most likely get another mini bottle, which, after tax, is still nearly $10 in my area because, at this point, I can’t justify spending $60 in my area on a full bottle.

With the current bottle, wanting to give it a fair shot, I’ve done several tastings over the past nearly two weeks, but my tasting notes & experiences remain largely the same.

I do multiple tastings spaced out over time for all spirits to incorporate any changes they may go through after the initial bottle opening & neck pour.  I let spirits aerate a bit in the glass on my second & subsequent sips as well.

Some spirits have improved over time as they’ve opened up.  A case in point for me is Patrón reposado, which, though still not amazing to me, saw its flavors meld better than on the initial pour.  Others absolutely need to open up to get their full array of amazing flavors, like Tequila Ocho Plata Puntas 2024 – Mirandillas.

I do this to be as fair & open-minded as possible for all spirits as I delve back in after so many years away.  As I mentioned in a previous post, that’s why I’ve bought numerous mini bottles of everything from Cuervo Silver to Patrón to Don Julio & from Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 to Maker’s Mark bourbons – to experiment & form my own palate preferences based on my own experiences.
