
The latest release in El Tesoro’s “Mundial Collection,” this reposado is aged for six months in American White Oak barrels formerly used to age Basil Hayden Toast bourbon. These barrels were toasted and then flash charred for flavor. Basil Hayden Toast is an 80 proof (40% ABV) bourbon made from a mash bill of 63% corn, 27% brown rice, and 10% malted barley. El Tesoro and Basil Hayden share the same parent company, Beam Suntory.
Like El Tesoro’s other tequilas, the new Mundial Basil Hayden Toast reposado is produced using a volcanic tahona stone to extract the sugars, stone/brick ovens to cook the Weber Blue agave, fermented in open-air wood tanks with fibers, double distilled in a copper pot still, and then bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV) using deep well water.
The Mundial Collection was launched in 2021 with a special edition añejo aged in Laphroaig Islay scotch barrels. The second release in the collection was the Knob Creek Rye edition añejo aged in Knob Creek rye whisky barrels.
The Mundial Basil Hayden Toast reposado is a bright golden yellow color and has a flavor and aroma profile of cooked agave and sweet cinnamon and baking spices, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, cherries and orchard fruits, white pepper, honey, and floral notes.
