Tequila Palate Evolution: Código 1530

Código 1530 was one of the first traditionally made tequilas that I tried early on in my “tequila journey” & it’s a brand that’s grown on me a lot since that time. Though I’m still not a big fan of their blanco or rosa blanco, their aged expressions have (& continue) to grow on me – I wasn’t a fan of the reposado early on but now like it & have just cracked open the first bottle of their añejo that I’ve owned. Previously, I’ve tried them outside of home in pour form. Código 1530 really excels in barrel/cask aging.

Very early days, but initial thoughts on this añejo are that the Cabernet French White Oak cask finishing really shines alongside the usual cooked Blue Weber agave notes (baking spices, fruity notes, vanilla/vanillin, herbal notes) – The dark red fruit & fruit skin, butterscotch & caramel, vanilla, black pepper, citrus peel, black tea, & creamy coffee notes all mix together well.

The lot number of this bottle is LNVO054ANE40, bottled on 21 June 2023.

Sipping it on a hot summer’s day in one of my Denver & Liely Mezcal glasses.

After some time passes & I do more notes-taking tastings, I’ll write up a review.
