Tonight, I’m thoroughly enjoying my first pours of an E.H. Taylor bourbon (any bottle) with some friends – I’m amazed both at how fruity the aroma & flavor profiles are as well as the types of fruits that I’m pulling on the nose & the palate. For me, there’s a lot of tropical fruits (which is a bit shocking to me, actually, in a bourbon that is not cask finished in a rum or a wine barrel) including fresh pineapple and orange marmalade, white orchard fruits (apricots and apples), dried fruits (raisins, dried berries), and cherry candies (Twizzlers and cherry hard candies) mixed with sweet corn, caramel, vanilla, light/fruity butterscotch, orange zest, oak/barrel notes, black pepper/baking spices/rye spice, anise/black licorice, a hint of fresh mint, and sweet tobacco leaf. The flavor profile is sweet but balanced out by a nice spiciness throughout, a medium creamy mouthfeel, and a long finish.
Caveat – This is early going and I’ll wait until more time has passed and I’ve done multiple notes-taking tasting sessions with this bottle before writing up a review.
This bottle is from lot/batch L25155 01 1958D.
