Spirits & Keeping an Open Mind: Curating Tequila Samples to Share

I’m encouraging someone to try out craft tequilas and am curating samples for him. As part of this process, I asked him which tequilas he’s tried and which he enjoys – they include Gran Centenario reposado and añejo and Casamigos añejo; he enjoys añejos generally because they’re smoother and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that despite what some tequila snobs may say (and they just need to get a life).

It’s been a long time since I’ve had Casamigos añejo or Gran Centenario añejo and I’ve never had the Gran Centenario reposado. The latter two are on sale this month in Virginia and so I picked a bottle of each up and I also picked up a 50ml mini bottle of the Casamigos. I decided to do this so I can better understand what flavor profiles he’s had and which ones (particularly the Gran Centenario añejo) he enjoys so I can better curate the samples I decide to share with him based on what bottles I have in my “collect-to-have-stuff-to-select” selection.

I never judge what people enjoy in terms of foods or drinks including spirits because who the hell am I to do so? If you judge people, get a life and stop – no one likes people like you. I also never judge a bottle before I try it – too many people jump on a bandwagon without actually doing proper extended tastings of things.

In addition to sharing, thus far, samples of aged tequilas I think he may enjoy, I’ve also shared a few that I want him to try to see what he thinks of them including some reposado and blanco/plata tequilas. The sample list is at the end of the post.
