Don’t be a spirits snob. In short, don’t be an ******.
Spirits are about craft & sharing with others, not about snobbery or gatekeeping. Like all other aspects of life, the best rule of thumb to follow is to be a polite human being & not a jerk. Judging others for their preferences & other things that are entirely subjective is just stupid & doesn’t make you “sophisticated.” It makes you a POS.
This attitude may explain why, after years, this small-time “WhiskyTuber” hasn’t been able to achieve the success he feels he deserves – looking down on a significant part of your audience & potential audience isn’t a great strategic choice. This is from the same guy in MD for whom I picked up 7 allocated bourbon bottles & 2 scotch bottles in VA & DC for prices far lower than what he can usually find in his home state. Though helpful early on my whisky exploration journey, he ultimately stiffed me on a bottle that I picked up for him, a E. H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bottled in Bond Bourbon.
The awesome nature of my graduate students this year has really highlighted who in life deserves time, energy, and effort and who absolutely does not. All of my students are better people, better men, than the MD guy will ever be.
