COCKTAIL SERIES: Passion Fruit Suffering Bastard

A tropical twist on the Suffering Bastard bourbon-gin cocktail:

  • Half a small lime’s worth of freshly squeezed lime juice (about ½ ounce)
  • 1 ounce Mt. Defiance Gin Nouveau
  • 1 ounce of Four Roses Bourbon
  • 2-3 dashes of Giffard Passion Fruit liqueur (Giffard Crème de Fruits de la Passion)
  • 1-2 dashes of Angostura Aromatic Bitters

(1) Combine all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice & shake until well chilled.

(2) Pour in a glass over fresh ice & top with a splash of ginger beer (I used Fever Tree).  Stir with the knife used to cut the lime.

*I don’t have fresh mint, so forewent the garnish of a mint sprig.

The Suffering Bastard was invented in the early 1940s at the Shepheard’s Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. Other versions swap bourbon for brandy.
