SHORT REVIEW: 1792 Cognac Cask Finish Kentucky Straight Bourbon

A limited release from Barton 1792, the Cognac Cask Finish has no age statement (NAS) but is a minimum of 4-years-old and is bottled at 95 proof (47.5% ABV).  The mash bill is undisclosed but believed to be approximately 75% corn, 15% rye, and 10% malted barley.

My review is based on multiple separate notes-taking sessions over 3½ months using Denver & Liely Bourbon glasses with varying resting/aeration times in the glass.

COLOR: Dark Amber

AROMA PROFILE: Sweet, very pleasant aroma profile – The cognac comes through clearly with sweet grapes & dried berries, fresh apricots, caramel, vanilla, light baking spices, oak, cocoa, citrus peel, some floral notes, & some nuttiness.

PALATE: The cognac influence also comes across strongly on the palate – Sweet grapes, dried fruits, & fresh apricots start off the sip very sweet but this is balanced almost immediately with a hit of black pepper & rye spice, creamy caramel & vanilla, toffee, oak tannins, dried orange peel, leather, a hint of cocoa, & it finishes with a mix of fruity & caramel-vanilla sweetness, black pepper & rye spice, oak, floral notes, & leather.

FINISH: 6-8 seconds

MOUTHFEEL: Medium viscosity with tears & pearls in the glass; Medium-thin mouthfeel (a bit thin, but the finish lingers a bit)

VALUE:  Enjoyable cask finished bourbon well-worth its MSRP

ALWAYS ON SHELF/BUY AGAIN?  Yes, I have several bottles all purchased at MSRP.
