This was my high proof bourbon (above 50% ABV). Produced by Barton 1792 Distillery and bottled at 125 proof (62.5% ABV), this has no age statement but is at least 4 years old and non-chill filtered. The mash bill is undisclosed but is thought to be 15-25% rye. This specific bottle is a VA ABC Sazerac Barrel Select single barrel released in 2024; the label doesn’t have a specific barrel number.
This is a new addition to my “Milestone Whiskies” list.
This review is based on multiple separate notes-taking sessions over 9½ months using Glencairn and Denver & Liely Bourbon glasses with varying resting/aeration times in the glass.

COLOR: Dark copper
AROMA PROFILE: Significant ethanol that dissipates somewhat the longer the bottle is open – Aroma profile defined by dark caramel & burnt brown sugar, vanilla, dark chocolate, bananas caramelized in brown sugar, prominent baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves), oak, & a smoky note.
PALATE: Hot initially before rich, deep flavors pop (matching the aromas).
FINISH: 7-10 seconds
MOUTHFEEL/VISCOSITY: Incredibly viscous & coats the glass with very slow-forming tears; Creamy/oily mouthfeel
VALUE: Flavorful barrel strength bourbon for $52 – a bargain
ALWAYS ON SHELF/BUY AGAIN? Yes – I have purchased other single barrel picks and hope they’re as good as this one.
