This post is part of the “New Bottle Highlight Series.”
This limited edition takes The Glenlivet’s classic 12-year-old Speyside single malt scotch and finishes it in high-ester Jamaican rum casks for an undisclosed length of time. The casks are similar to those used for the distillery’s shelfer “Caribbean Reserve” no age statement scotch but the cask ratios are reportedly different. The “Jamaica Edition” is bottled at 80 proof and its aroma and flavor profiles take tropical fruit notes from the rum casks.
Though I’m moving onward in my scotch exploration, The Glenlivet’s 14 Year Cognac Cask Selection and 15 Year French Oak Reserve opened the door to scotches for me last year and the distillery and brand will always have a special place in my whisky journey. The “Jamaica Edition” was too intriguing not to take a flyer on for under $60 in my market.
Review forthcoming!
