Released nationwide on 13 February, Green River Distillery’s newest addition to its shelf stable lineup, the Full Proof Wheated Bourbon, has a mash bill of 70% corn, 21% wheat, and 9% malted barley. It will be produced in batches ranging from 109 to 116 proof and this inaugural batch is 109.3 proof (54.65% ABV). It has no age statement but the distillery says it is a blend of 5-7-year-old bourbons bottled at barrel/cask strength.
Bronze in the glass, the bourbon has great viscosity and lovely aromas and flavors of bright fruit (cherries & orchard fruits), Pepperidge Farm Strawberry Verona cookies, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange zest/peel, toasted oak and wood sugars with moderate barrel char smokiness, crème pâtissière inside a pastry, sweet corn, and light black pepper.
It isn’t life changing, but I’m liking it so far – and a well produced barrel strength bourbon for an MSRP of $50 can’t be beat.
