Thanks to a generous colleague who expended a lot of time and effort to find this while on a work trip to Colorado, I’m happy to be able to add this limited edition Lost Lore reposado tequila to my selection. Aged in West Bound & Down Brewing stout beer barrels, this reposado is produced, like the rest of the brand’s tequilas, at one of the best Jalisco Highlands (Los Altos) distilleries, NOM 1414 – Feliciano Vivanco & Associates, and is overseen by master distiller Sergio Cruz. Lost Lore’s blanco is one of my favorite sipping blancos and I wish it was more readily available in my market, the DMV, and particularly in Virginia.
Lost Lore is produced using mature Highlands agaves, stone/brick oven cooking, roller mill extraction of the sugars (aguamiel), fermentation in stainless steel tanks with classical music playing (the “Mozart Method”) using champagne yeast, 2x-distillation in copper pot stills, & cutting to 80 proof (40% ABV) with mineral-rich deep well water.
The West Bound & Down Stout Cask reposado is bottled at a slightly higher proof (86/43% ABV) than the normal reposado (80/40% ABV). I’m looking forward to trying this one with the kind soul who found it and transported it back for me!
