SHORT REVIEW: Jack Daniel’s Bonded Triple Mash Blended Straight Whiskey

Part of the distillery’s “Bonded Series,” the Triple Mash Whiskey meets all of the bottled in bond regulations including being aged a minimum of four years and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV) in a 700 ml instead of the usual (in the U.S.) 750 ml. This is a blended whisky – 60% Tennessee rye (mash bill: 70% rye, 18% corn, & 12% malted barley); 20% Jack Tennessee whisky (mash bill: 80% corn, 12% rye, & 8% malted barley); and 20% American single malt 100% malted barley whisky. Like all Jack Daniel’s whiskies, the Triple Mash undergoes the “Lincoln County Process” – filtering through 10 feet of maple wood charcoal for 3-5 days to “mellow” the final spirit.

This review is based on several pours divided into multiple, spaced out tasting sessions using Denver & Liely Bourbon glasses with varying aeration/resting times in the glass.

COLOR: Dark amber/bronze

AROMA PROFILE: Banana, dark cherries & dried berries, honeyed malt, brown sugar & maple syrup, marzipan, toasted oak/barrel notes, caramel, vanilla, & light baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg).

PALATE: Dried berries & orchard fruits (apple & apricot), marzipan, slightly burnt brown sugar, oak tannins & dark oak/barrel notes, honeyed malt, baking spices from the nose, dark vanilla, banana, grassy notes, cloves, & black pepper. There is a light smokiness after completing the sip as I breath out through my nose.

FINISH: 8-9 seconds

MOUTHFEEL/VISCOSITY: Medium-full; creamy/oily/buttery

VALUE:  At $41.99 in my market, this is a fairly good value buy if you like the flavor profile.

ALWAYS ON SHELF/BUY AGAIN?  No – the flavor profile isn’t to my liking.
