As a bottled in bond product, it is aged at least four years and was produced in the same distilling season by the same master distiller at the same distillery. It also had to be stored in oak barrels in a federally bonded warehouse under USG supervision. It has to have remained unaltered & be bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).
COLOR: Amber/Dark Honey
NOSE: Orchard Fruits (sweet, tart Apples like Honeycrisp) dominant; sweet Caramel mixed w/some Vanilla; Oak/Barrel “Woody” notes on the backend of the nose; hint of Citrus (light).
Collectively, the aroma profile is fruity with sweet caramel & vanilla, oak/barrel notes, some baking spices, & a hint of citrus. The ethanol is very light for a 100 proof spirit; I get very little alcohol on the nose.
PALATE: Oak/Barrel “Woody” nots lead followed by Orchard Fruits/fruity sweetness, some Citrus; Rye Spice & Black Pepper; some ethanol heat on the backend with the Caramel-Vanilla notes. There is a touch of Anise & Oak Tannin bitterness on the end.
MOUTHFEEL: Good viscosity & coats the palate well
FINISH: Medium (around 7-10 seconds)
PRICE POINT (VA): $43.99
VALUE: My first favorite bourbon (since replaced by Widow Jane Baby Jane, but still my #2 favorite bourbon). I have several reserve bottles (all different single barrels).
