This is the inaugural post of a new series where I’ll revisit spirits bottles that I haven’t poured for many months or longer to see how my tasting notes now match with those in my initial short reviews.
The Isaac Bowman Port Barrel Finished Bourbon was one of the first bourbons I enjoyed and for some time it was one of my favorites, but it fell by the wayside as I continued to explore new bourbons over the past 1½ years. Until my most recent new pour, the last time I took tasting notes on this bottle was nearly 19 months ago. This bottle has been open since mid-November 2024. I used a Denver & Liely Bourbon glass with a 20-minute aeration time covered with a notecard.

ON THE NOSE: Dark fruits (plums, cherries, red berries) & raisins, stewed fruit compote/jam, chocolate, caramel, light vanilla, baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, light cloves), nuttiness, & honeyed black tea.
ON THE PALATE: Jammy dark fruit & raisin sweetness mixed w/punchy black pepper & oak tannins, unsweetened black tea, the baking spices from the nose, some caramel & vanilla, & unsweetened dark chocolate & fruit skin tannins on the finish.
MOUTHFEEL: Medium-short across the palate & medium-long in the glass (longer than in a Glencairn)
FINISH: 5-6 seconds
