This post is the second in an ongoing new series on budget-friendly tequilas that will focus on bottles under $50 (before tax) in my market, Virginia (primarily) and the DMV.
Produced at distillery Autentica Tequilera (NOM 1502) located in the Jalisco Valley by master distiller José Valdez, Tequila Partida Reposado uses Blue Weber agave that is at least 6 years old and is bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV). The agaves are cooked in low-pressure autoclaves for 24 hours and the aguamiel is extracted using a roller mill before being fermented using natural yeast in stainless steel tanks. The tequila is 2x-distilled in stainless steel pot stills. The reposado is aged for around 6 months in ex-Jack Daniel’s American White Oak barrels shipped to Mexico within 10 days of being dumped in Tennessee.

Priced at $44.99 in Virginia, the reposado mixes earthy vegetal green bell pepper, jalapeño chili, and apple skin notes with cooked agave sweetness, aromatic baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves), light caramel and vanilla, minerality, barrel spice and oak, and some anise bitterness on the finish to balance out the rich sweetness. It has medium viscosity in the glass and mouthfeel.
Unfortunately, Virginia ABC has decided to close out the brand’s reposado and añejo – bad move!
