Produced by Barton 1792 distillery as their introductory level, no age statement bourbon, 1792 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon is bottled at 93.7 proof (46.85% ABV) and made from an undisclosed mash bill thought to have a higher (15-25%) rye content alongside corn and malted barley.
This review is based on 17 months of multiple notes-taking sessions all using Glencairn and Denver & Liely Bourbon glasses with varying aeration times.

COLOR: Bronze
AROMA PROFILE: Baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves) & “rye spice,” caramel/toasted brown sugar, vanilla, & a hint of oak lead followed by a waft of orchard fruit (apples), dried dark cherries, & a hint of citrus zest comes & goes.
PALATE: The flavor profile is defined by punchy baking spices, rye spice, roasted corn drizzled with dark honey, & black pepper mixed with orange peel & some fruit, caramel/toasted brown sugar, & vanilla sweetness. The spices dominate the finish with black pepper, a drying cinnamon, & oak/barrel notes mixing with an herbal mint note, oak tannin bitterness, & a bittersweet dark chocolate.
FINISH: 6-7 seconds
MOUTHFEEL/VISCOSITY: Medium viscosity in the glass but a thin mouthfeel
VALUE: Budget-friendly bourbon ideal for daily sipping or mixing, but a bit too ethanol forward.
ALWAYS ON SHELF/BUY AGAIN? No – I’ll pay $12 more for a 1792 Bottled in Bond.
